la vie française

tours is adorable. c'est pas comme paris, but it's charming and interesting and the weather has been overall lovely these past 3 weeks. there are cobblestone streets and cafés galore, a cathedral,  an art museum, parks and boulevards, and a riverbank that was made to be sat by on a sunny day.

l'hôtel de ville, or city hall.
my house, a former industrial building turned open-plan modern home.
the cathedral.
when in rome...
second photo of the hôtel de ville but god it's just so pretty at night.
my days have been spent in class at l'institut de touraine, where i'm taking a french course in which i'm practicing grammar and writing, conversational speaking, pronunciation, and learning about french history, culture, and art. it feels so nice to be back in french mode, so to speak, and to be hearing and speaking it at school, home, and often with friends from class as well. i can already tell the difference in my abilities and i can't wait to see how much i've improved by the end of the course. outside of school, i've been hanging out with new friends and exploring tours.
spring has sprung finally!
a bunch of us spontaneously attended an FC Tours football match this weekend, which was a lot of fun.
last weekend, i took the train up to paris for the weekend to see my best fraaaaand, her mom, and their family friend laura. it was fantastic to be back in paris and we packed as much into the weekend as possible- eating macarons, visiting the musée d'orsay, wandering through saint-germain-des-prés, exploring le marais, and more.

wow much israel very middle east
macaron pit stops at both paul and ladurée may have occurred...
rue de grenelle, aka the site of the elegance of the hedgehog

dusk in le marais
the whole weekend was a blast and it was unbelievably fab to be reunited with marit for the first time since... last year (whaaaat???/). big thank you to gina for putting me up in paris and treating me to métro tickets, delicious veggie food, and incredible hospitality!

middle school pipe dream of making it to paris together = accomplished

last sunday, we all headed back down to tours via blois, a cute little town with a chateau.

this week has been crazy in the best way. it's so much fun having marit here with me, there are lots of new people at the institut this month whom i've met as well as several of my friends from last month, my new french course is more intense and very interesting, and i feel settled in and really happy here in tours. time is honestly flying by; it's hard to believe that i'm halfway through my time here. it's going to be hard to leave. but i plan on continuing to get as much out of this experience as i can- learning a lot and seeing and doing everything there is to do here! today marit and i drafted a tours bucket list to accomplish before we go.

the big news at the moment though is that marit and i are taking a 3 day trip to dublin for easter weekend! we were looking at cheap flights from tours airport for the long weekend (we have the day off from school on easter monday) and dublin was far and away the cheapest, so... we booked it.  ireland is without a shadow of a doubt my favourite country that i've ever been to and i completely didn't anticipate that i'd be going back during this year- especially for my birthday weekend!- and i couldn't be happier about it.

that's all for now. à bientôt,

M
