une nouvelle fois à paris

the début of our eurotripping adventures was paris. marit and i said goodbye to our friends, packed up all our stuff, and caught a ride to the gare de tours from our host parents, and then we were off to la ville lumière.

the first priority was meeting up with tamar. we were all too excited to remember to take any photos; marit and tamar hadn't seen each other since leaving senegal in mid-march, and though i had skyped, facebook messaged, and even crossed over for two days in argentina with tamar, we hadn't ever met in person! with a few hours to kill before we had to  board our overnight train to munich, we decided to stash our luggage in a locker in the underground storage dungeon at gare de l'est and head into the city for the afternoon. this turned out to be more of a struggle than anticipated- we played jenga with our suitcases and backpacks for about 25 unsuccessful minutes in a not-quite-big-enough locker only to realise that the lock on the door was broken and we'd have to switch lockers anyway. finally, we switched to a new locker, stuffed our suitcases in it, decided to just carry our massive backpacks with us since they wouldn't fit and we didn't want to pay several more euros for a second locker, and headed out before the train station staff could laugh at our antics any more. the whole situation was comically absurd. just call us the three stooges.

the final product.
the second priority was falafel. are you really surprised? i've now eaten falafel on three continents and counting without any plans of stopping soon. we took the métro to the marais, a favourite quartier of all of ours, and wandered around with our food.

dying a little bit inside at the assortment of gorgeous, candy-coloured ballet flats in the repetto boutique
i don't think i'm ever gonna understand the collective european obsession with haribo
soon, it was time to make our way back to the train station, where we retrieved our bags and waited for our train. the photo below displays the very first iteration of our Baggage Fortress™, an art form which we perfected by the end of our two weeks of backpacking.

and then we were off to germany! the next morning, we woke up in bavaria. more to come.
